Save My Marriage Today

how common is it not to have sex because of fear of pregnancy?
first off i need to say that i do realize that im very conservative when it comes to sex (not religious though). im still young (in college), still a virgin and believe in saving sex for just 1 person. my gf & i have been going out for about 2 years. we’re still gonna be at college for a few more years. luckily for me she’s very conservative too and doesnt see the rush to have sex. however she’s told me before that if we both use the pill & condoms properly (we’re both responsible) then there’s nothing for me to worry about. my biggest concern is the 1% or whatever possibility of getting her pregnant & i’m absolutely 100% anti-abortion. i’m definitely not worried about it because we’re both content showing our love in other ways, but i was just wondering how common it is for young couples TODAY saving sex for marriage/moving in together etc because of tiny risk of pregnancy?
Your “fear” of pregnancy isn’t an unreasonable fear it all — it just shows that you’re knowledgeable about what the risks of having sex are and what responsibilities you’ll be taking on if you do happen to be the 1%. I think the reason many other young people don’t share your view is that they 1) aren’t aware of the medical facts and put their faith in myths about how to avoid pregnancy (as a high school teacher, I hear some pretty wild ones!), 2) feel invincible and are certain nothing bad is going to happen to them, and 3) consider abortion a viable, get-out-of-jail-free solution. You and your girlfriend are very wise to wait until you’re ready to take on all the responsibilities that come with sex, however slim the chance of pregnancy might be.
